Hey All! It’s been awhile since I last blogged, and I figured it would be nice to update you on my daily skincare routine.
Here is a detailed review of the products I’ve been currently using to manage my hyperpigmentation and hormonal acne-prone skin!
Soy Face Cleanser by Fresh
This cleanser is the ONLY cleanser I have ever repurchased with complete confidence. When I first tried this cleanser, I saw an improvement in my overall complexion and skin texture.
Texture & Smell:
This cleanser has a gel consistency and has a light cucumber smell. It applies smoothly to the skin; it has a very subtle lather. The lather is not bubbly, it’s almost a milky lather.
Fresh’s Soy Cleanser does a great job of making my skin feel clean without making it feel dry/stripped.
After about a week of use, I noticed an improvement in the overall radiance of my skin. My skin no longer looks dull or dehydrated. My skin’s acne and textured surface reduced after using this cleanser.
I am pretty lazy with my skincare, so I love that this can be used as a makeup remover, cleanser and a toner. It is beneficial to me to have a cleanser that can do more than one thing. Anything that makes my skincare routine less complicated is a plus for me!
Size & Value:
The first bottle I purchased was a Limited Edition Value size, which held 6.7oz of product. This bottle was priced at $55CAD at Sephora. This size lasted me a little over 3 months. This works out to be about $19CAD per month. Personally I felt this to be reasonably priced considering the results I saw after using the cleanser.
– Amino Acid-rich Soy Proteins: Help maintain skin elasticity and suppleness.
– Cucumber Extract: Aids in soothing the skin.
– Rosewater: Notable for its calming and balancing properties.
A simple lightweight gel cleanser that is perfect at balancing your skin’s Ph. This cleanser is recommended for anyone and for all skin types. It is ideal for those who suffer from skin conditions such as: Dryness, Dullness and Uneven Texture, and Loss of Firmness and Elasticity, and of course Hormonal Acne.
If you are trying out a new beauty product and your skin has an allergic reaction to it. This product is great for calming the skin and getting it back to its normal state. It really is my Holy Grail Cleanser. Highly Recommended!
Treatment Enzyme Exfoliating Powder Cleanser by AmorePacific
Because my acne is based on my hormones, every month, near the time of my period, my skin freaks out. I am able to heal my hormonal acne with Fresh’s Soy Cleanser, but I am left with noticeable acne scarring – which I manage with my new fav powder exfoliant!
Personally, I never liked physical exfoliants.. so I was intrigued when I came across AmorePacific’s powder-exfoliant.
Initially, to test out this product, I purchased the Purify and Polish sample set at Sephora for $32CAD. This sample set includes 0.5oz of “Treatment Cleansing Foam” and 15g of “Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing Powder”. This seemed a bit pricey to me, but compared to the $70CAD full-sized bottle, this was a sweet deal! After a few uses of the sample, I was convinced to invest in the full sized bottle.
Texture & Smell
A light green powder that smells like perfumed baby powder. The scent is noticeable, personally, I do not mind the smell – though, I do not recommend this product for those who are sensitive to fragrances. I also do not recommend directly smelling this product, you will inhale the fine powder, cause the scent to be overbearing (coughing because I accidently inhaled this powder was definitely not a fun time.. lol).
How I use this treatment: First, apply powder to the palm of my hand. Then, add a 2-3 drops of water to the powder. The powder will become a milky texture. Lather the milky textured cleanser by rubbing your hands together. Once lathered, apply to the face and neck and rub-in with your hands to thoroughly cleanse the skin. Finally, wash off with water.
I immediately noticed a brighter more even skin-tone after use. With continued use, my acne scars have basically disappeared.
When I first started using this product, I used it daily for about 3 days straight, then I noticed that I developed a small red patch of skin on my chin. So I discontinued using this product and switched to using my Fresh Soy Cleanser. After about 2 days , the redness on my chin went away. Once the redness was gone, I continued to use the powder-exfoliant every other day instead of daily. The redness did not recur, my belief is that my skin had to get used to this formula.
Based on this experience, I do not recommend using this exfoliating cleanser daily, for those with sensitive skin.
I do find that my skin does get very dry with after using this product. I recommend following up with a moisturizer.
Size & Value:
This powder exfoliant is valued at $70CAD for the full sized bottle, which includes 50 grams of product. This price point is a bit high. But only a pea sized amount of product is needed to get the benefits of the exfoliant. I have only been using the full-sized bottle for 3 weeks now, and it is still nearly full of product. Once I finish the bottle. I will update this blog with how long 50 grams of product lasted me.
– Green Tea-derived Probiotic Enzyme (Lactobacillus ferment): Helps to remove dead skin cells.
– Papaya Enzymes (Papain): Help support healthy turnover to reveal radiant skin.
I feel that this product does an excellent job of removing dead skin cells, impurities, and is great for prepping my skin to allow other products to deeper penetrate into my skin.
I would recommend this product to those who have oily or combo skin types and are struggling this uneven skin tone and texture.
I use this every other day to maintain my even skin-tone, and I use almost daily when I am dealing with new acne scars. I like to double cleanse with this first then follow up with my Soy Cleanser by Fresh.
Vinosource SOS Deep Hydration Serum by Caudalie
I want to start off by saying I am EXTREMELY picky with moisturizers. My skin type is oily/combo, so it is very hard for me to find a moisturizer that works well with my skin that doesn’t feel too greasy or too sticky.
I first got this serum as a sample from a previous Sephora purchase. So, I tried it out.
My initial reaction was HOLLY HYDRATION! My skin felt so quenched and satisfied.
But what sold me into buying the larger version was how fast this absorbed into my skin.
Texture & Smell:
Lightweight Oil-free serum, that looks like a watery cream. Smell is not noticeable or rememberable.
After using this serum as a daily moisturizer, I have found that it does an excellent job at hydrating the skin and correcting any dry patches you may have.
It can also be worn by itself or added to a moisturizer. I found that this serum has a slight smoothing/blurring effect, making it suitable for wearing under makeup as a primer.
Size & Value:
I have only been using this product for about 2 weeks so far so am unsure of how long 1oz will last. Currently 3 full pumps is enough for my full face and neck.It is valued at $59CAD for 1oz of product. I wish the bottle contained more than 1oz.
– Organic Grape Water: Moisturizes and soothes.
– Hyaluronic Acid: Hydrates and plumps.
– Olive Squalane: Deeply moisturizes, heals cracked or chapped skin, and soothes eczema and excessive dryness.
Love this serum. It gets the job done and absorbs quickly into my skin. Once absorbed, it doesn’t feel like I have anything on my face which I love. Leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated.
I do think this is a pricey and I have only been using this product for about 2 weeks, so I am unsure if I will repurchase this. I’ll keep you guys updated 🙂
